Why I Write...

As a writer/author the questions I am asked the most often are, how do you get your ideas and why do you write? The answers are really quite simple. I write because it's very therapeutic. Whether or not people like it is of no consequence to me. Simply put, at times it allows me to work through some of my own issues via my characters. I try not to write from direct experience however, I do use bits and pieces for each character. But if you've wronged me, be certain a character may mock you. (just saying). As far as ideas go for each writer that is very different. For instance, in my case a simple sentence spoken, or a single word can trigger an entire paragraph. Sometimes, it can trigger an entire storyline. I get my cues from listening. Reading, is also a great way to expand your vocabulary, as well as give you motivation. In the end, writing is relaxing. Watching your characters develop, thickening the plot, adding some unexpected twists. That's what it's all about. Luckily, I have writing to distract me from a very stressful job that makes ridiculous demands each and every day (sometimes each and every hour). Escapism and laughter is key to maintaining any level of sanity. Just ask my co-workers. I know of what I speak...
Cheers, Lisa ;-)
