Follow me Friday

Keeping with the Spirit of Giving this season, what book do you think EVERYONE should read and if you could, you would buy it for all of your family and friends?

 Celestine Prophecy by:James Redfield

May not be a newer or even popular book now, but it had a great impact on me when I read it.  It let's you look at your relationships and see what has made you the person you are today.  All of those influences and how they impact your character.  It also talks in great depth about how there are really no coincidences in life.  Essentially, everything happens for a reason, and even though I read it many years ago it definitely affected the way I look at life now.  Things do happen for a reason, whether good or bad.  This is my suggestion and the one book I would give to others during the holiday season :)

Meeting of the minds

There is one thing I have learned over the past weekend.  If you have the opportunity to meet your potential agent and his associate, then jump through all the hoops you can!  I spent a wonderful weekend in Miami and was able to meet up with my agent for the first time face to face.  We have spoken several times on the phone, we have had conference calls discussing the editing process I am doing and have emailed one another regularly.  BUT..there is nothing that can sell your passion, your drive like being in front of your agent.  A face to face meeting is so much more personal.  In the age of technology sometimes people get lost in the shuffle.  I did not want to be that person.  I wanted my agent to not only see my commitment, but also my conviction.  Nobody can sell your idea better than you can!  If he had any doubts, I believe those have now all been laid to rest.  The meeting was fantastic!  Now he truly understands the depth of my passion and drive to see this project to its completion.  The next meeting will be the final step in getting this novel to the publishers!  I am so very excited at the potential plans he has in store to make this happen!  Now it's not just an agent/writer relationship it's also the beginning of a long term friendship!  My hybrid novel is just about finished and I can't wait for the next chapter of this process to move forward!

Hybrid you say??

When I first asked my (almost) agent, about the genre he felt my book would fit into, he replied it's a "hybrid".  I was like huh?  Seriously?  It's definitely not YA, it's not totally Sci-fi, Greek mythology or even erotic fiction.  It's  mix of those things.  The editor compared it to The Matrix and (slightly) to Twilight.  The reason for that is this; the story and ideas are completely new and fresh thus, The Matrix as it was revolutionary. And second, to a lesser degree Twilight, simply because it has a strong female lead that most women can relate to. Guys will be likely to enjoy the battle and war scenes.  I think this is a good thing. It will definitely captivate several readers.  All of which will be from different walks of life.  So as the editor put it, it's a twist between Bella from Twilight, and Sarah Connor from The Terminator.  So can you imagine what the character is like?  Talk about complete extremes!!!  Bella a teenage girl who is so quirky, but very mature for her age, and Sarah Connor who is a strong, capable, assertive woman.  Can you picture her? Can you picture my lead character?  She too has her own quirkiness, but  she is not quite as strong as Sarah Connor.  Although, she will develop that kind of strength throughout the book.  If you like Greek mythology, then this will completely pull you into the world of the unknown.  You will suddenly begin to understand not only the reason it is so important, but realize that this story line actually explains how it is possible for Greek myth to be alive today, in the way of shape shifters and vampires. It will drag you into the unknown and you will thirst for more.  This is the first novel of a trilogy and what lies ahead is truly unique! Of course the male lead is amazing, and how I picture him below. I hope you will all follow me through this journey!  Looking forward to a glorious ride!

Old story come to Life...

I decided to share a bit of the story that started my writing.  This is not, nor will it be a published book, but nonetheless it was my first attempt and I look back and smile when I think about these characters in my head.  Maybe one day I will bring them to life :)  Can you picture them?  What do you get from these characters?  I am most interested to hear any and all feedback!

It was a warm and sunny day in Blogge'ville. The sun was shining brightly, and you could hear the sprinklers start up from the center of town, the birds chirped loudly as though they were trying to wake everyone.
It was a typical day for Beaudeen. Her morning ritual was complete. She would make the bed, start a load of laundry and then breakfast. This of course, was followed by cleaning the kitchen,  deciding what to take out for dinner and preparing the coffee. It was a routine she was all too familiar with. And as she watched the clock she knew her guest would be arriving shortly.  So she had to be prepared. As she walked out to the front porch she was greeted with a loud boisterous voice.
"Well good morning, Beaudeen what's on today's agenda?" said Ms. Olivia Plumbward.
"Coffee and cinnamon rolls for this fine day, hope you’re hungry!" said Beaudeen.
"You know I always bring my appetite for your fresh baked goods.”
“Well I do declare this is going to be a beautiful day," stated Beaudeen. They both laughed and settled into their rocking chairs to watch the passer-by's.
It was exactly 8:45 AM and you could set a watch to the daily events. Being the busy bodies that they were, they knew what to expect each morning.  As they made small talk about recipes, the morning in Blogge'ville began.
At 8:52 AM you could expect JD to drive by and you knew it was him because of the rumble of his truck, off to his morning landscape job.
Kate Carliall and Leigh Lexington would be jogging by at 8:53 waving and smiling, as they always did. At 8:54, Sheryl would drive past to open the store. And without fail, Crystal would come flying around the corner at 8:59 AM driving her blue Mercedes. And she was forever speeding.
She was always trying to catch Sheryl opening the store late, but she never did. Sheryl was as dependable as they came and Crystal knew it, but hated this about her.  At 9:00 AM the town bell would chime, and you could faintly hear the school bell ringing in the distance. The day in Blogge'ville had begun.
Beaudeen and Olivia had been friends for as long they as they could remember. Their morning ritual of coffee and baked goods was something they had done for the last 20+ years. They chatted as though they weren't aware of their surroundings but everyone knew better. They sat, and they gossiped.   It was expected of them. They would sit and chat until 9:45 AM when Beaudeen would say "Time to clean up, Judge Judy is coming on at 10:00 AM." She would gather the tray and cups, and leftover baked goods, and they would part ways until the following morning.
As Beaudeen gathered her tray full of tea cups and left over baked goods, a loud thunderous roar could be heard in the distance. Olivia stood and locked eyes with Beaudeen. They knew this was not a familiar sound, this was different. Beaudeen looked down at her tray as the China tea cups began to rattle up against one another. Something was different. This sound was not at all familiar. They both stood in silence wondering what it was. As they stood there, they curiously awaited to see what that sound was.   It became very apparent as the roar grew louder. A black softail Harley Davidson motorcycle pulled up in front of the Salon DuJour.
As she turned off the ignition and lifted herself off her motorcycle, she felt as though she was being watched..... And she was. There she stood with her black leather chaps and leather jacket, and a pistol in the small of her back.
As she removed her helmet, her long red tresses fell perfectly into place, she was strikingly beautiful. Pam Tanna had arrived to Blogge'ville. She leaned against her bike, and pulled out a cigarette.....
“I guess Judge Judy is going to have to wait today," said Olivia. Beaudeen smiled and they both simultaneously sat back into their rocking chairs......

Return to Blogging

To all my fellow bloggers out there!  I used to belong to the blogging world. I shared decorating tips and tablescaping ideas.  Ironically, I also began writing thanks to some very inspiring bloggers!  So, for the last 2 years I have pretty much been buried in a self spiritual awakening of sorts.  I am in the middle of a re-write of a book that already has an agent very interested.  I am extremely excited about the journey and look forward to meeting up with people of like minds.  I miss my blogger support that was unconditional!  Looking into a bright future with hopes, dreams and wishes for a truly glorious ride!

About the Book

What if the gods and goddesses of ancient Greece were not myths? What if they were among us today? Fighting for the very soul of humanity! What if one bloodline held the key to the survival of our race? Read the Mnestrean Line and find out! Well we are  now actually looking at changing the title of the book but until that time we will stick with this one!  Perhaps we will seek assistance in picking the new name!

Cheers,
