People have been asking about my pen name. Well, it's really quite simple. I'm a French Canadian (although rarely speak it anymore) and my husband was Scottish, hence frenchkilt. I started becoming an HGTV junkie. Then several of the followers I had started blogs. So I started one too. I mostly blogged about decorating and life, but managed to gain a sizable following roughly 800++. My claim to fame was when I was asked to be on the HGTV show Rate My Space. Someone had requested they use my home as a guide for a re-do in their home in California. It made the TV show and the State newspaper here. Needless to say it was extremely exciting! So, how does that all fit into my life as a writer? Well, all those ladies who week after week for 3 years were the ones that talked me into writing! I had a second blog dedicated strictly to the story I was creating for my readership! A story that finally ended at over 50K words!
So that's the name history and my blogging history. Once I decided to write, really write, and start another blog I wanted the ladies that inspired me, to be able to find me once again! Once you've been known by one handle it's best to stick to it. So for years, approximately 5 years of blogging and contributing to HGTV's site I found no reason to change it!
My current debut novel Oracle, has been a work in progress (WIP) for roughly 5 years. It started out as a short novelette, and now here I am 5 years later with it in editing at 163K words. I cannot take all the credit, I do have some very encouraging friends, that were there to cheer me on! I doubt I ever would've had a novel of this size without their support. I'm really excited about it's release but also terrified. I'm sure most first time authors feel the same. We pray, and hope our work or baby gets the love we feel it deserves!
I am a mother of two beautiful children and a grandmother to a beautiful grandson who is coming up on his first year birthday!
I have worked in many fields in my life, bartender, waitress, flight attendant, real estate agent, business owner, and finally found my home as an RN and writer. As a little girl, I wanted to be a dancer, a nurse and an actress. Well, I danced tap, ballet and jazz for 15 years. I'm now a nurse. Acting, I guess my 3 minute episode fulfills that too! I believe that one should never look back and say what if....I think you need to step out of your comfort zone and go after dreams, regardless of how unattainable they may seem to be. Never trying is failing, and never failing is never learning and growing! I hope this sheds a little light into who frenchkilt is :)
Cheers, Live, Love, and Laugh, Lisa (aka frenchkilt)

So now we know. I guess I could have always gone with TexasKilt since I from Texas and my hubby is from Scotland.
Good combination for a nickname!
Like you, I'm also a first time author soon to get the book out there. Some anxiety is to be expected.
